Australia Keep Some Pride But Lose The Series 2-1 To Sri Lanka

November 15, 2010
On the 7th of November Australia and Sri Lanka played their final one dayer against each other and at that point Sri Lanka had already won and led the series 2-0. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. But this time unlike the 2nd ODI, the result was different and Sri Lanka played like the the Sri Lanka of old who showed that they were scared of the opposition and played very defensive cricket unlike the last two matches. They were bowled out for 115 after only 32 overs. Chamara Silva top scored with 33 and was well supported by Upul Tharanga who backed up his 88 from the last match with 28. Clint Mckay finished with his best ever ODI figures of 5/33 from nine overs.
Australia reached the target of 116 with 170 deliveries left and with eight wickets in hand. Stand in Captain Michael Clarke top scored with 50 not out and was well supported by Wicketkeeper Brad Haddin who scored 31. Dilhara Fernando was the standout bowler for the sri lankans with 2/47 from eight overs.
Good win for Australia but will that win give them enough confidence for The Ashes starting on the 25th of November? I personally don’t think so but stranger things have happened on the cricket pitch. I think Australia will win the series however it will be a very close and tight series with plenty of verbal bashings and excitement and Australia will win the series 3-2. I doubt the weather will have any part in this Ashes series. We Hope!
